Les origines de l’indo-européen. Nouvelles recherches, antécédents, méthodologie, bilan et conclusions

by Jean-Pierre LEVET, in Res Antiquae 21, 2024.

Despite the publication of numerous works on the origins of Indo-European, the scientific community remains generally skeptical about the existence of a Eurasiatic or Nostratic macrofamily. We sought to find out why and then we are proposing an original method to approach the subject, putting it into practice by using mainly Indo-European and Japanese data and trying to show the existence of a Eurasiatic macrofamily characterized by the use of a basic morpho-syntactic proto-ligature in the form of a particle *nV. At the end of a coherent reconstruction based on sets of facts already analyzed in a series of publications, for which we propose a general assessment with a number of quotations, we cautiously ask the following question: pure coincidences or proof of a vast prehistoric relationship?

Keywords: macrofamily, Indo-European, Eurasiatic, Japanese and dialects, particle *nV, scientific scepticism, method, tocharian, possible proof
