by Pierre Mbid Hamoudi DIOUF, in Res Antiquae 21, 2024.

This article concerns a category of dreams that have attracted the attention of the Ancients. These were dreams deemed to be "extraordinary", the content of which had a considerable impact on or foretold the dreamer. This magical and exalting aspect of dreams, through thaumaturgical dream narratives in which the analogy or continuity of the dream experience with daytime activity or with the sleeper's preoccupation, will constitute the focal point of our study. Psychoanalytic and psychological theories will be an obvious part of our analytical scheme. The 'dynamic' content of dreams, particularly incubatory dreams, will enable us to understand their positive or negative influence on the sleeper's state of health or mood.
