L’iscrizione ligure (non etrusca !) sul bicchiere di Sesto Calende

The inscription on the Sesto Calende cup was drawn up according to the writing system of the ancient Ligurians in which ligatures of several letters were used: often all the letters of a word were linked together. These ligatures could also have a figurative or symbolic function. The content is the same as many other Ligurian inscriptions : it concerns the words spoken by one of the two gods who govern the universal cycles when his antagonist is about to decapitate him and emerge from the underworld to reign alternately in heaven and on earth for a period of the year.
