by Johanne GARNY, Étienne VAN QUICKELBERGHE, in Luc COURTOIS (ed.), Les études orientales à l’Université de Louvain depuis 1834 (Histoire, 12), Brussels, 2021.

This article traces the history of teaching and research in Assyriology at the Catholic University of Louvain. The first part is inspired by the experience of the authors as students between 2008 and 2019 on the Louvain-la-Neuve site. The second part deals with the period going from the restoration of the university in 1834 on the site of Leuven, to the expulsion of French-speaking students in 1968. A third part deals with the period of the installation of the university in Louvain- la-Neuve (1968-2008). The role of three neo-Louvanist institutions in Assyriological studies will also be analyzed: the Centre d'histoire des religions card. Julien Ries, ABELAO, and the Musee L. A bibliography of publications in Assyriology will be provided at the end of the article.
